We Dance!

2017 Summer Classes

– Appropriate dance shoes and attire is mandatory for all summer classes. –

Introduction to Dance (3-6 yrs)

45 Minute Class/Week

A class designed for our youngest dancers, this program utilizes playful songs and basic dance moves to engage the students attention and imagination.  The curriculum introduces ballet and tap basics, develops listening skills and musical awareness.
Required Dance  Attire: Leotard, tights, Revolution #150 Classic Pink Ballet Shoes, and Revolution #801 Black Tap Shoes. Ballet skirts are acceptable. Dancers must have hair pulled up and away from face.

 Primary (7-9 yrs)

1  Hour Class/Week

Beginner ballet, jazz, and tap technique class.  Students are introduced to center floor work, new terminology, and traveling combinations across the floor.  Introduction to turns, leaps, and progressions help to strengthen the students endurance and expand their knowledge of dance. Students also gain a greater sense of rhythm through the basics of tap combinations.
Required Dance Attire: Leotard, tights, Revolution #150 Classic Pink Ballet Shoes, and Revolution #801 Black Tap Shoes.  Jazz shorts or jazz pants are acceptable. Dancers must have hair pulled up and away from face.

Ballet I & Ballet II*  (7 & up)

1 Hour Class/Week
(Ballet I is recommended for our Primary/Intermediate Dancers. Ballet II requires teacher placement)

A ballet class for the beginner and intermediate dancer. Students will learn classical ballet techniques and terminology. Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work, and across-the-floor combinations.
Required Dance Attire: Leotard, tights, ballet skirts are acceptable.  Revolution #150 Classic Pink Ballet Shoes. Dancers must have hair pulled up in a bun and away from face.

Ballet III/IV* (Teacher Placement)

1 Hour Class/Week

Correct execution, control, and balance are the focus throughout this class. Students start at the barre and move on to center and floor work to both challenge and strengthen the dancer. Ballet terminology is used throughout the class and students are encouraged to learn combinations quickly.
Required Dance Attire: Leotard, tights, ballet skirts are acceptable.  Revolution #150 Classic Pink Ballet Shoes. Dancers must have hair pulled up in a bun and away from face.

 

Pointe (Teacher Placement)

45 Minute Class/Week (Must be enrolled in Ballet)

Students learn and practice pointe barre work with an emphasis on individual’s correct foot and body alignment as well as study the proper techniques for the execution of more difficult steps.
Required Dance Attire: Leotard, pink tights and pointe shoes. Dancers must have hair pulled up in a bun and away from face.

 Jazz & Tap Technique* (8 & up &Teacher Placement)

1 Hour Class/Week

A technique class designed for students interested in participating in the upcoming 2017-2018 Performance Teams or for those dancers wanting more of a challenge. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with traditional jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations. Tap technique focuses on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement with an emphasis on developing proper tap technique and producing clear tap sounds.
Required Dance Attire: Leotard, tights,  ballet skirts, jazz shorts are acceptable. Jazz pants are acceptable for warm ups only. Revolution #473/#471 Tan/Black Premium Jazz Shoes and #503/#501 Tan/Black Tie Tap Shoes. Dancers must have hair pulled up and away from face.

 Improv and Isolations (8 & up)

45 Minute Class/Week

A class designed to help the dancer explore and create new movement utilizing improv excercises in group and individual activites along with focusing on isolated movements using various forms of dance such as hip hop, jazz funk, and modern.
Required Dance Attire: Leotard, tights,  jazz shorts are acceptable. Jazz pants are acceptable for warm ups only. Footundeez or bare feet. Dancers must have hair pulled up and away from face.

Lengthen & Strengthen (12 & up)

1 Hour Class/Week

Students learn to work together using a partner to improve their flexibility. All students are given the opportunity to encourage one another and gain a sense of trust when working with others. Areas of focus include the spine and lower back muscles, hips, inner thighs, hamstrings, ankles and much more. This class is extremely beneficial when paired with a ballet class. It is highly recommended to students considering performance teams. T-shirts & yoga pants are appropriate attire for this class. Adults welcome.

Introduction to Hip-Hop ( 9 & up)

45 Minute Class/Week

Students learn basic hip hop movements and dance style. Dances will focus on isolated movements and learning how to move smoothly as well as sharply through these different techniques. Dancers will also learn basic hip hop floorwork. T-shirts and yoga pants are appropriate attire for this class. Dancers are welcome to wear street shoes that have been cleaned on the soles, otherwise jazz shoes are another appropriate option for shoes.

-Please Note: Street clothes are not allowed for any dance class and dancers not properly dressed may be asked to sit and observe class.-
